Yesterday’s (10/08/2008) Observer had a really interesting article entitled “Conquering the last great wilderness”. The piece, by Euan Ferguson describes his walking holiday among the dramatic peaks of Scotland’s Knoydart. You can read the full article online at:

Euan’s trip was organised by our travel partners in the UK – Wilderness Scotland. Coincidentally, our Sirius scholarship place winners will be travelling north to Corrour and Loch Ossian in just two weeks time. The trails will be split over two weeks, with Jo accompanying the first group and I will join the second group.

Sirius is a new programme this year, being run in conjunction with the Tellus Mater Foundation. The aim of the programme is develop leadership and campaigning skills in young people who are inspired by and passionate about the environment and want to take steps to make change happen. Each participant has gone through the application process (essay writing and interview stages) to earn their place on the programme and upon their return from Scotland will have the chance to attend the Wilderness Foundation UK’s first Youth Congress, being held in November this year.
