Rachel Who?

Rachel Carson.

Born 1907. Died 1964.

It is time to listen as if for the first time to what she has to say.

Rachel Carson wrote “Silent Spring” in 1962 overcoming the opposition of government, industry and her own failing personal health in order to alert the world to the careless use of chemicals in our environment.

‘Disturbed by the profligate use of synthetic chemical pesticides after World War II, Carson reluctantly changed her focus in order to warn the public about the long term effects of misusing pesticides. In Silent Spring (1962) she challenged the practices of agricultural scientists and the government, and called for a change in the way humankind viewed the natural world.’

This theatre piece enables a contemporary audience to appreciate the courage of Rachel Carson once again.
