Since becoming a beneficiary of the Rolex Award for Enterprise in November 2008, Wilderness Foundation UK director and the driving force behind the Umzi Wethu initiative in South Africa Andrew Muir has hardly been out of the news.

The Rolex Awards for Enterprise recognise those pioneering individuals making a better world.  Through Umzi Wethu Andrew, together with the teams at Wilderness Foundation South Africa and Wilderness Foundation UK has been addressing the needs of an estimate 88,000 child-headed families in South Africa, many of whom have lots parents to HIV/Aids.

Of the award Andrew says:

It is a great honour to be recognised by your colleagues. The recognition has put the work that I have done with others for 21 years on the map

The WIlderness Foundation UK would like to thank everyone from the UK who has supported this initiative and helped to offer better futures for South African children.

If you would like to know more about Umzi Wethu, there is an opportunity to hear Andrew Muir speak in London during his current visit.  The Wilderness Foundation UK, together with the Gaia Foundation is hosting an evening talkat the Smithfield Gallery in London on Monday 26th January 2009.   Admission is £5.00 on the door, however it would help us with planning if you could confirm your attendance to LeighFerris@wildernessfoundation.org.uk Drinks and light refreshments will be provided.   It promises to be a special evening and we hope that you can join us, together with Andrew to celebrate both the success of Umzi Wethu and Andrew’s award.
