For those of you that are keenly following the travels of Nick Ray (see earlier posts here and here) here are a few updates on his progress, as relayed by his wife Karen:
August 5th
Nick was out of phone range last night, but left a message this morning. He camped on a lovely secluded beach last night and as of 11 am this morning was sitting on the beach at Aberdowan waiting for the tide to turn before continuing the journey. …Weather is fantastic and he has done 60 miles so far …….. 390 to go.

August 8th
Nick has had a good day today, and thinks he might tackle Snowdon tonight. The weather has been great, the sea and beaches are busy but he has met some great people so far.
August 9th
Nick did Snowdon today, with a bacon buttie at the top to celebrate. Now nursing a blister in the tent & looking forward to an early start for the Menai Straits tomorrow. Fourteen miles of tricky tides, shifting sands, whirlpools and swellies (whatever they are).
August 10th
Nick sent a text today:
“All OK. Had a very tough day. Epic on caernarfon bar with force 6 wind. Swellies a doddle. Had to retreat to anglesey due to big seas.”
He is making up time and feeling good for tomorrow.
August 11th
Nick had another good day today and has reached Point of Ayr in North Wales. Heading off to Great Orme tomorrow.
August 12th
Nick had a bit of an epic today. He was always a bit worried about Liverpool Bay as it is so busy. He set off at 4, but it took him an hour to carry all his stuff down – the tide goes out a long way in this part of the world. The wind was against …him, and he had to navigate around sandbanks and some big ships.
All is well now & after ten hours paddling he is camped out on Southport Beach, admiring the Blackpool Tower from afar.
We’ll continue to relay the news from Nick and Karen as it arrives.
