After a rather wet and dreary winter, everything is springing to life at last at the Community Allotments and we’re just about to start our new season connecting people to nature.
We haven’t been hibernating over the winter months and everything is ready on site – we’ve cleaned and tidied, prepared the ground, sorted the seeds and have even managed to cultivate a new Project Manager in the guise of Wilderness Foundation UK staff member Jonathan Barker. Jon has taken over from Charlie Welch, who is going on to other projects with Chelmsford Borough Council. Our thanks to Charlie for all her hard work in the past, and we sincerely hope she won’t be a stranger to the Hobart Close allotments site in Chelmsford.
Our weekly volunteering sessions are on the move too. Our weekday supervised session with our instructor (Jon) will be on Monday starting from 8th March 2010. Projects in the coming weeks will include the construction of some new raised beds, planting First Early seed potatoes, onion sets and garlic and improving site access for the less-able bodied.
Jon would love to see you on site. All the tools, expertise and materials are provided – you just need to turn up with some old clothes on, a pair of wellies and (occasionally) some waterproofs!
