6.30–‐8.30pm 10 December 2010 at Re-Vision, 97, Brondesbury Road, London

Nick will be discussing some themes from his forthcoming book ‘Wild Therapy: Undomesticating Inner and Outer Worlds’, which links Ecopsychology with issues of social and individual control versus spontaneity, and on a smaller scale with the regulation and monitoring of psychotherapy and counselling.  ‘Wild therapy’ refers to an approach which in some ways already exists in many people’s practice, but which perhaps could benefit from being clearly identified and named. Some of its characteristics are:

  • It recognises the interdependence of everything that exists.
  • It is through–‐and–‐through relational.
  • It identifies the role of the other–‐than–‐human and more–‐than–‐human in the    therapeutic process.
  • It supports, protects and defends liminality.
  • It celebrates embodiment as a central aspect of our existence.
  • It welcomes the spontaneous and the unknown, trusting what arises of its own accord.
  • It seeks to transform fear–‐based defensive practice into undefensive, contact–‐based, adventurous practice.

Nick: I am a body psychotherapist, trainer and supervisor based in Yorkshire, with over 25 years in practice. Originally a Reichian body therapist, my approach has become broad based and open to the spontaneous and unexpected. I have an MA in Psychoanalytic Studies,  have worked with Process Oriented Psychology and trained as a craniosacral therapist. I have written or edited eleven books, including Body Psychotherapy: An Introduction; Psychotherapy and Politics; And Press When Illuminated: New And Selected Poems.
