The Wilderness Foundation UK is pleased to announce a further two sets of opportunities to join our highly succesful leadership development in nature programme – Sirius.

The Sirius Scholarship for Environmental Leaders -  a joint initiative with the Tellus Mater Foundation -  provides people with an almost fully funded wilderness-based development programme  in Scotland, where the participants, together with leaders from the WFUK and highly trained and experienced guides, explore the impact that we have on the environment.

Each year we work with a selection of 18-30 year olds who have a commitment to positive change for the environment.  Our aim is to help develop leaders for the future who truly understand the crucial need for a balance between humans and nature in order to ensure a sustainable future.

Sirius offers you the chance to:

• Spend six days as a part of a group of like-minded people in splendid isolation, either canoeing or trekking in a stunningly beautiful part of Scotland.
• Take time to experience and reflect on a connection to the natural world.
• Work with experienced wilderness guides and facilitators exploring your  values and passion.
• Enhance your personal and professional knowledge of sustainability and environmental issues.
• Develop your leadership skills and qualities.
• Launch a project that you wish to implement on your return to school or your local community, with personalised coaching support to help you “be the change”.

The next Sirius programmes will run from 9th to 15th April 2011  and 23rd to 29th July 2011 and applications are now being invited.

Eligibility for the scholarship is as follows:

• Applicants must have an interest in promoting the environment and sustainability
• You must be prepared to champion the cause and encourage new thinking in your school/institution/community.
• Be available for six days in April or July 2011
