Our innovative Wild Swans programme focused on promoting the value of women’s leadership is starting to catch the eye of the media.  In the Daily News, Simone Samuels says:

“As the sun set over the Wilderness Leadership School in Durban, 12 girls who had just returned from a “life-changing” wilderness and cultural experience were evidence of the Wild Swans project’s success…

While the girls, aged between 16 and 18, shared the same experiences, they were impacted in different ways.

Niamh Furey, also from Ireland, said having long periods to herself with no distractions allowed her to discover who she was. “The experience helped me to know myself better, and that’s what leadership is about,” she said.

Naomi Monkaoko, the SA participant, said that the experience made her more aware of how much she had taken for granted. She said it was a strengthening experience because there were many times, especially during the long walks, that she wanted to quit, but had found the strength to continue.

Londoner Tania Hossain said she grew more confidence.

“Before this I always used to doubt myself, saying I can’t do this, but after five days in the wilderness, I felt if I can do this, I can do anything,” Hossain said.
