Wilderness Academy gains Safari Tent classroom

In late November 2014 The Wilderness Foundation took delivery of a great new addition to our Wilderness Academy – a purpose-built Safari Tent.   The tent was erected with the support of Anderson Construction who kindly gave time and resources to construct the wooden base for the tent, and then the team from Clear Sky Safari Tents who built the rest of the structure with support from some of our team.    The building was ready for our Festive Fayre and made a great stop-off point for Father Christmas.

We are really pleased to have added this further outdoor resource for delivery of our services for the young people who  we work with in nature. It will really help us in increasing the fantastic experiences the young people we support, especially because of its location overlooking our valley and woodland.

In addition to the sturdy structure which will withstand the wet British winter conditions and periodic gales, the tented classroom has been fitted out with a wood burner which means that we can use the space year round.    The wood burner was supplied by Zigi’s, for which we are grateful.

The whole project itself was funded through a Big Society Fund grant from Essex County Council.

Thank you for everyone who has supported this project.    Make sure you take a look at our new building next time you are visiting our site at Chatham Green.
