The TurnAround Essex group has just returned from a wilderness trail in Wales. The group spent a week canoeing on the River Wye. This is what Ellie, one of the young people had to say about the week
“It was such a magical week, every morning getting to wake up to the sound of the river and the birds chirping with the sun glaring through the clouds because it was foggy. The nature gives me such gratitude because personally I don’t think anybody appreciates nature enough, we all take it for granted. Only since I went to Wales have I realised I need to start opening my eyes up more and looking around because when I did that in Wales I saw some of the best scenery I have ever seen in my life, it was absolutely stunning.
I’m happy I met the people I did, we were all there for the same reasons and therefore we all understood each other. Everyone was so supportive and I was extremely well looked after. I had been so worried about leaving home to go to Wales before we left but by the end of the trail I didn’t want to leave my peers. I’ve never clicked with anyone before and it felt good to have the chance to open up to them and not feel judged. I knew that they’d all been through the exact same things and they can help me and give me advise on how they dealt with it.
I am so glad that I got to meet new people, try new foods, see new places and try new things. Now I can think to myself, how do you know if you’re going to not like something until you try? I was extremely certain that I was going to hate Wales and it turns out it was honestly one of the best moments I’ve had and I will treasure that for life”.
