Bukky Leo and Black Egypt
Bukky
Leo is one of Africa's most revered and influential musicians. His love
of music was shown early on and aged 13 premier Afro beat drummer Tony Allen
offered him a place in a band having spotted him practising his saxophone
in Lagos, Nigeria.
Having gone solo to brand his own acid jazz funk fusion he arrived in England in 1982 where he released 'Rejoice in Righteousness'. This and many to follow topped the Rhythm and Blues, Dance and Jazz charts.
Bukky left for the river Nile, Egypt during the 90's and succeeded in forming Black Egypt - a band that have emerged as the most important Afro-beat group outside Nigeria. It is Black Egypt in their full entirety that Bukky performs with at the World Environment Day Concert - a total of ten musicians that will do their best to get you moving to their Afro centric grooves.
The Vibrants
Hailing from Twickenham, The Vibrants have been taking the UK and North America by storm. Drawing on influences including The Who and The Police, this five piece are spreading an ever-growing buzz as one of the industry's most exciting new live acts.
Returning from a triumphant and energetic appearance at North by North
East in Toronto last June, The Vibrants released the cult video hit "Games I've Never Played" to widespread acclaim. With industry insiders fighting over tickets and support slots for Badly Drawn Boy and Athlete, among others, already under their belt, 2007 looks set to be The Vibrants' breakthrough year.
