Venue Koko
Koko
- formally Camden palace - will host the Trust and London's first
World Environment Day Concert. The management are fully behind the cause
and have provided invaluable support towards the concert.
The venue has recently undergone a multi-million pound make over and has been restored to its original theatrical splendour; decorated in lavish red and floral gold. It will lend itself brilliantly to the evening with plenty of bars and a sweeping tiered floor plan allowing intimate views of the entertainment.
Your host is . . . Phil Kay!
Phil
Kay . . . is Scottish and he lives among the trees, he loves the stage and
he loves a reason. For eighteen years he has been going on introducing himself
and introducing bands, seeing bands and jumping up and down to them. He
has been doing stand-up all those years and even had a TV show on Channel
4 yet much preferred to live away up north. Trees For Life is the cause
closest to Phil because he lives right by their offices and headquarters
in Findhorn in Moray, near Inverness. He has played with the kids of the
folks who run the operation, cycled with employees and walked among the
forests that they have revitalised. He may well have a piece of foliage
still in his beard.
DJs
The Black Rats Djs
Once in the dead of a harsh winter night, three street rats crept the dank sewers and alleyways of London. These were the scum of the Earth, the vermin among animals, and were hated by all humans. The rats, hungry and half-starved, ran aground to find some food, crawling through an opening in a leaky pipe. The rats found themselves in front of a witch who looked at the rats and took pity on them for having to live their lives hated by so many. She turned the rats into humans, and the Black Rats were born: Blonde, Brown & Black. To honour our heritage we only dress in black - the colour of the sewers we used to run in, and we still live our lives like those rats in the seedy underbellies of London to this day.DJ Sam Duckworth
Sam Duckworth records gigs a lot as Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly. For World Environment Day he is putting his alias name aside and appearing fully exposed and committed as the event's dj.
He grew up in Southend, Essex, where during his teenage years he served time in local hardcore bands, before realising his dreams solo. He subsequently took himself off round the UK on self-generated, self-funded, wing-and-a-prayer-and-a-rucksack tours, which gave him a dedicated fan base and allowed him to hone his considerable talents.
Sam epitomisers the concert's objectives in that his music champions life's small wonders and experiences whilst informing and encouraging others to get out there and experience for themselves life's challenges, magic and inspiration. He will undoubtedly add spice and substance to the evening.
Fergus Drennan aka Fergus the Forager
Fergus
has recently been adorning our airwaves and newsprints as the UK's most
fervent forager. He has an uncanny ability to track down aromatic calories
in any habitat type imaginable, be it a razor sharp wave cut platform or
a drab four-lane motorway where luckless animals are picked up and put to
the pot. Fergus has turned hobby into a vocation and in doing so has inspired
people nationwide to think twice before committing their wallet to plastic
packed food stuffs when wild varieties are available to be eaten just inches
from front doors all over the country.
Jim Perrin and Robin Beatty to do a reading
Jim is best known for his exploits as a climbing travel writer who has described himself as an "antediluvian and anarchic rock-jock, with the odd classic route here and there, best-known for soloing Coronation Street back in the 'seventies out of my skull on coke and speed, and also as a writer..."
When asked if he would appear at the concert he asked ''whether it would be like Ferlinghetti coming on for the last waltz?'' Quite possibly ! - He is accompanied by Robin Beatty - a talented musician who will add deeper dimension to the reading - highly skilled and guaranteed to cause a stir!
