POPULATION AND SUSTAINABILILTY NETWORK
PSN is an advocacy group which aims to bring together development, environmental and reproductive health NGOs, government departments, academics and others, to increase leverage on population issues.
The network aims include:
1. To highlight the negative impact of population increase on economic development, poverty alleviation and the natural environment.
2. To support others in the campaign for the provision of adequate reproductive healthcare facilities for the 350 million couples who would use them, but are currently denied rights of access because of non-availability or other reasons.
3.To ensure better opportunity for investment in healthcare and education
4. To promote better understanding of the problems caused by unsustainable consumption
5. To promote greater awareness of the importance of population planning, among policy makers, media and the general public.
Kenyan Community Based Organisations Supported by PSN
Mpala Community Trust & Nomadic Communities Trust
MCT and NCT deliver reliable and accessible health care services to
communities of central and northern Laikipia, and Samburu, since 1999.
Many of these communities are pastoralist, either transient or living
in remote regions, and often lack access to basic health resources.
Services include Reproductive Health and Family Planning Advice,
HIV/AIDS awareness (including VCT), basic curative health care
facilities, immunization, and information on Female Genital
Mutilation.
These clinics, run by a small community team, successfully treat and
educate thousands of Kenyans annually. For more information see links.
