Challenges

Why not do something amazing this year….

The Wilderness Foundation UK has teamed up with Charity Challenge to offer you a whole range of challenges all over the world. If you have always wanted to try something but are not sure what then I’m sure you’ll find something in our brochure. Not only will you be challenging yourself, but by raising sponsorship for the Wilderness Foundation UK you will enable us to continue our work of protecting the world’s last remaining wild places.

Our Challenges are open to anyone over 18 who is capable of undertaking the challenge.
Fifteen to seventeen-year-olds can participate in a Challenge if accompanied by a
parent or guardian (aged 25 or above).

There are also a range of family challenges where twelve to seventeen-year-olds can participate if travelling with their parents.

There is no upper age limit provided you are fit enough to undertake your chosen challenge. In the past a 75-year-old man successfully completed the Rajasthan Tiger Bike Ride in India and a 72-year-old man successfully summited Kilimanjaro!

You will need to be relatively fit, should have an active sense of adventure, be willing to muck in, and have a positive and flexible approach to adventure travel.

What are you waiting for………go on, be the envy of your friends and challenge yourself!!!

Here are ten reasons to sign up:

1. destinations: Our challenges offer the chance to meet new people and experience different cultures throughout the world. Take your pick from challenges in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Europe or the Americas.

2. fundraising: Putting on events to raise sponsorship is a great way of meeting other people who are interested in the Wilderness Foundation UK or the challenge. Get your creative juices flowing and come up with some innovative ways to raise the funds. Visit our e-brochure for an A-Z of ideas to get you started.

3. activity: The challenge activities we offer are equally varied. You can push yourself to the limits by trekking, cycling, mountain climbing, kayaking, white water rafting or horse riding. Alternatively, put in some hard graft on the building site with one of our community challenges.

4. choice: Our portfolio of challenges incorporates seven different types of activity in more than 25 countries, three levels of difficulty, a wide range of durations and more than 130 departure dates. If you want to do something amazing this year, we are sure to have something to inspire you!

5. flexibility: By joining any one of our open challenges, you have ultimate flexibility. As well as choosing which expedition to participate in, you will be supporting the work of the Wilderness Foundation UK. You can also choose how to fund the challenge from a number of payment options.

6. fitness: This is your chance to set yourself the goal of getting fit and have an incredible motivation for achieving it. Although the challenges cater for varying levels of ability, they all require an element of physical fitness and everyone is encouraged to develop a fitness programme to suit the challenge they are about to face.

7. responsible tourism: We ensure that the local communities in the host countries benefit directly from our challenges. All of our expeditions provide employment, contribute to the local economy and inject funds into vital community projects. We strongly support and positively encourage environmental responsibility, both at our office in the UK and on all of our challenges overseas.

8. social: Our participants are men and women, young and old. Motives come in all shapes and sizes, but the one thing everyone has in common is the desire to help a worthwhile cause, whilst breaking the mould of everyday routine.

9. broaden your horizons: This is not just a physical challenge. You will have the opportunity to experience new cultures – from the Maasai in northern Tanzania to the Karen hill tribe in Thailand. We aim to create an understanding of local issues and provide sensitive interaction with local communities.

10. why not? Our challenges are something out of the ordinary. Why go on a regular holiday when you can have the adventure of a lifetime, experience something completely new, get fit, raise money for charity, and make a real difference?
