We are proud to work with two Consultant Psychotherapists:
Haley Marshall CTA
I am a fully qualified Certified Transactional Analyst, and UKCP registered psychotherapist. I have been in full- time practice for 15 years and am experienced in working with individuals, groups and couples of all ages in a range of settings including the NHS, local industry, and private practice. I also provide supervision for psychotherapists.
My interest in psychotherapy in the outdoors originally came from my experience as a participant on a Wilderness Immersion experience on Skye in 2007. Since then I have developed my practice to incorporate working out in the natural environment in a variety of ways. As well as maintaining a thriving indoor therapy practice, I provide outdoor psychotherapy for individuals out in local woodlands, and also co- facilitate longer group therapy weekend experiences in wilder settings such as the Peak district and the Rhinog Mountains in Wales. In May 2009, I was part of the psychotherapy team working out on the Turnaround Wilderness Trail for the Wilderness Foundation.
I am a founder member of Counsellors and Psychotherapists Outdoors (CAPO) a group set up to develop outdoor work with the emphasis on exploring the professional issues in conducting therapy outside , and to help bring this important intervention more in to the mainstream of therapeutic work.
I am currently in the process of writing articles exploring and developing the different theoretical facets of outdoor therapy practice, and have presented on this theme at the recent 5IATC (adventure therapy) conference in Edinburgh in September 2009. I am now in the process of completing my MSc in Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy with a focus on psychotherapy within the natural environment. I hope to move on to study at PhD level with a view to researching and developing the field of outdoor psychotherapy and specifically the Wilderness Trail element, in greater depth. I am especially interested in how the combined power of the group process and wilderness setting can evoke powerful transformational experiences for people.
One of the joys for me of working in the outdoors is that it combines two of my passions in life, namely the awesome power of a relationship with the natural world, with the creativity of a psychotherapeutic space. In my view this is an extremely effective way of promoting personal and collective insight and transformation.
I live in the Peak District with my husband and have 2 grown up children.
Luk Peeters
I am based in Belgium and I have worked as an outdoor experiential trainer since 1985. I studied educational sciences and I am a licensed European Association Gestalt Therapy (EAGT) psychotherapist, supervisor, and gestalt trainer. As well as providing psychotherapy, I currently coordinate a Gestalt training programme and I am a staff member of a unit that specialises in the study of group therapy. I am also responsible for the training department of a Challenge Ropes Course company.
I am a member of the Adventure Therapy International Committee (ATIC) and I have been involved in the international development of adventure therapy for over fifteen years. I have presented at a number of international conferences and I have authored a variety of articles addressing the use of adventure and nature in supporting psychotherapeutic processes.
I am a certified Outward Bound trainer and hold a Wilderness First Responder Certificate (Wilderness Medical Associates). I enjoy experiencing my own adventures in wilderness settings and I am particularly passionate about exploring the ‘canyons’ in the Spanish Pyrenees. I have also explored Quetico waters of Canada, the Florida Everglades, and the Inner Hebrides of Scotland by sea kayak.
I am the proud father to three wonderful children who I love dearly. When I find the time I like to search for wild mushrooms and create delicious dishes with them, create digital photography, rock climb with friends, and spend time in my rural small holding and garden.
We work with a core team of qualified and nationally accredited psychotherapists and counsellors. They provide us with their professional service and expertise on a contracted basis. Our therapists come from different modalities including Gestalt, Existential, and Transactional Analysis amongst others.
Each of our therapists will have considerable experience in providing outdoor therapeutic work and be experienced in conducting group therapy.
Our therapists receive professional supervision for the work they provide for us.
Our team of highly experienced outdoor instructors and wilderness guides are nationally qualified in the activities appropriate to the programme, and they have considerable experience in leading and working with groups with specific needs or with challenging behaviour.
The programmes will be managed by the permanent management team of the Foundation. We have proven experience in project and programme management, and we will be directly involved in the programme while it is occurring.
