Sirius Scholarship Programme

In conjunction with Tellus Mater, a grant giving trust, the Wilderness Foundation UK offers scholarships to Year 11 and Year 12 students selected from a portfolio of schools across the United Kingdom.

The Sirius Programme works with young people who are passionate about the environment, helping to enhance a new generation of inspired young leaders and advocates in this field. The scholarships include a leadership workshop, experiential learning about the environment on a trail in Scotland during July or October, and an advocacy and campaigning workshop on the students’ return, ensuring that we harness passion and commitment for the future. Students are invited to form part of a youth conference held at the end of the year in London, along with participants from all the Wilderness Foundation UK’s other youth leadership and education programmes.

On the trail, highly skilled trail guides, experienced in working with young people, help to enhance the students’ perspective of their place in the world, and explore how their actions impact on the wider environment. The wilderness journeys give the students the opportunity to explore their personal relationship with wild places and their perspectives on sustainability.

We believe that young people involved will not only have a journey of adventure and learning but also an opportunity for real personal growth throughout the programme, and they will be inspired to share their newly found knowledge and skills. The aim of the leadership and advocacy workshops is to prepare the students to become environmental champions back in their own schools and communities.

The trails for 2009 take place in Scotland during the following dates:

10th - 16th Jul - Canoeing and Walking Trail
26th - 31st Jul - Canoeing and Walking Trail
25th - 30th Oct - Corrour Walking Trail (x2 groups)
