The University of Essex evaluates all of our trail programmes by administering standardised questionnaires both before and after trail experiences. The questionnaires capture any changes in self-esteem and connectedness to nature. Importantly, this process allows us to collect some quantitative data to support the qualitative narrative that provides a richer picture of the experience. It enables us to establish how spending time in wilderness and having the chance to reconnect with nature affects both the individual and the group.
