Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme

DofE LogoOur wilderness trails programme now has the golden seal of qualifying for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards. In addition the Foundation is now recognised as an Access Organisation for the The Awards. This is a very important step for our young participants as these awards are excellent additions to their CVs as well as giving recognition of rich life experiences.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award aims to provide for young people an enjoyable, challenging and rewarding programme of personal development, which is of the highest quality and the widest reach. The key prinicipals of the Award are that it should be:

  • Non-competitive
  • Available to all
  • Voluntary
  • Flexible
  • Balanced
  • Progressive
  • Achievement Focused
  • Enjoyable

The Award is a programme of personal and social development. The value to young people is dependent on personal commitment, the learning process and the quality of the experience.

Our five day wilderness trail programmes can earn participants their Gold Award for an Other Adventurous Project, and our community volunteering can be credited with the Gold Service Award. For example, a stay at the Mabandla Zulu Community qualifies both for the Gold Award Residential and also the Service sections.

We are currently exploring the classification given to our Scottish trails.

Wilderness Trails and Residentials Programmes meet International Baccaulaureate “Organisation” Requirements.
