Primitive Trails - South Africa

Walking trails focus on absolute simplicity and enable participants to enjoy the closest relationship to wild nature they will ever experience. Sleeping under the stars or in small tents - following natural rhythms of day and night, cooking on small camp fires and carrying all life essentials in backpacks - creates a total break from the pressures of modern day life and enables participants to have a clarity of vision regarding themselves, their work, their relationships and their world.

Wilderness is one of the most powerful mediums in giving people an opportunity to explore values, ethics and self exploration. All primitive trails are led by experienced wilderness guides who have the knowledge and training to complement facilitators, as well as care for the well being and safety of the groups. Trails are limited to groups of eight people and last for a minimum of four nights.

Imfolozi Game Reserve - KwaZulu Natal

Trails follow the ancient hunting paths of Shaka, King of the Zulu Nation in an area of pristine wilderness and beauty. This was the first proclaimed game reserve in South Africa and the first designated wilderness zone in Africa. The area we walk in follows the courses of the Black and White Imfolozi rivers, has undulating hills and a mix of bushveld, riverine bush and plains areas.

The Imfolozi hosts a wealth of wildlife such as elephant, rhinoceros, lion, buffalo, giraffe, leopard and more than 300 species of birds. It is an opportunity to stretch oneself emotionally and spiritually.

Baviaanskloof Wilderness

The Baviaansklook Wilderness Area lies tucked away in the south-western corner of the Eastern Cape, South Africa.

This unique, ancient and scenically dramatic wilderness area is diverse in landscapes, boasting a large variety of interesting habitats and vegetation types including rare plants. It is rich in bushman rock art, and artefacts from rock indicate that prehistoric humans were living there from at least the Middle Stone Age.

Hiking through old river beds and narrow gorges, and wild camping under rock overhangs or the stars, the experience is enhanced by glimpses of kudu, rhebok, bushbuck, Cape Mountain zebra, red hartebeest, Cape buffalo and eland.
